Varna Medical University

The top ranked medical university in bulgaria

Established in 1961, it has become the site of many Irish medicine, dentistry and pharmacy graduates over the past decade thanks in large to the accession of Bulgaria to the EU in 2007. It has four different faculties – Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Dental Medicine, Faculty of Pharmacy and Faculty of Public Health. While courses are available in Bulgarian language in all of these fields, medicine, dentistry and pharmacy are the programs that are available in English. They are EU certified medical masters degrees which enables graduates to seek employment in any of the EU states, the UK and and many other countries. The annual fees of 9,000 euros and the extremely low cost of living in Bulgaria also makes Varna a cost efficient choice for Irish students.

The City

Population: 335,000

Varna has existed as a port city for over 6000 years and has a long history of international settlers. This trend continues today as many international students and working professionals have chosen the city as their home. Many foreign and local students attend Varna Medical University, Varna University of Management, the Naval Academy, the University of Economics and other higher education institutions. During the summer season many tourists arrive to take advantage of the long sunny spells of weather and the many beautiful beaches. The medical university is a 10 - 15 minute walk from the beach which is a godsend for either relaxing walks in winter or taking a study break to go for a swim during summer exam sessions.  What people seem to love most about Varna is the short walking distance between the places they like to go. The city centre is a 10 minute walk from the university and there are many activities such as football clubs, swimming pools, sailing and many others all within walking distance.

Advantages of Studying In Varna

Entry Requirements

Irish students must have completed their Leaving Cert and passed honours Biology and Chemistry. All students must also pass two Biology and Chemistry entrance exams. We will provide you with the materials to pass these exams easily. With our assistance you will have a strong chance of securing your place.

Housing

There are a wide range of low cost apartments on offer within 5 mins walking distance to the university. Some students go for very low cost and pay as little as 150 euros per month if they're sharing with room mates. If your budget is higher then you can pay around 300 euros per month for a nice apartment on your own. Either way, this is a seismic cost saver compared to the current property situation in Ireland.

Tuition Fees

Considering the excellent location and high standard of education a tuition fee of €9,000 per year is very competitive. Factoring this fee along with a very low cost of living will end up saving a lot of money compared to studying in Ireland.

Transport

Registering for your student transport card is quick and easy with our assistance at the local train station. This will entitle you to ride the bus to the airport or anywhere in the city for 35 cents per journey! If you're interested in taking bus or train trips around the country then you can also get a student discount. Taxis are also cheap here and a 10 minute, €7 cab ride will get you from your apartment to the airport.

Phone & Internet

Although Bulgaria is lagging economically when compared with its EU colleagues, the internet speed here is certainly not representative of this. It ranks at the 20th position in the global Net Index Explorer for broadband internet accessibility and speed. This means very high speed at a low cost. Generally signing a 2 year contract with one of the local providers will set you back €7.50 per month as opposed to paying €35 per month back home.

Location

Located on the Western coast of the Black Sea, Varna is blessed with beautiful beaches and warm waters in summer. The nightlife is rich and vibrant thanks to the outdoor beach bars lining the shores. The beautiful, lush Primorski Park lies directly in front of the beach and stretches for miles which ideal for winter walks.
