Medicine & Dentistry Course Structure

Bulgarian Masters Level (MD) medicine and dentistry courses are EU recognised and follow the standardised EU structure. The opportunity to obtain this degree in a country with low tuition fees and cost of living is attractive for many Irish students.

Internship

Medicine - Course Structure

  • Pre-clinical: The first two years of the course includes lectures and seminars in core subjects such as Biology, Chemistry, Anatomy and Physiology.
  • Clinical: During the next three years of the course students will be spending the majority of their time gaining first hand experience with doctors and patients. Some of the subjects examined are Pathology, Pharmacology, Internal Medicine and Ophthalmology.
  • Internship: The final year of the course is the intern year which will hand you with more responsibilities in the hospital. At the end of internship you will take the State Exam in order to achieve your licence to practice. After successful completion of the exam, you will achieve the professional qualification of Doctor of Medicine (MD) and be awarded a Master’s degree.

Dentistry - Course Structure

  • Pre-clinical: The first 2 years will be spent learning the fundamentals of medicine, Biology and Chemistry. This includes seminars and lectures on subjects such as Anatomy, Physiology, Chemistry and Prosthetics.
  • Clinical: The next stage of the course lasts around 3 and a half years and gives the students a chance to learn and train in a clinical setting. Subjects covered at this stage include Orthodontics, Oral Pathology and Prosthetic Dentistry
  • Internship: The final stage lasts around 6 months and at the end students will take the State Exam in order to achieve a licence to practice. After successful completion of the exam, students receive a Master’s degree.
